Han Chiang TV & News Centre of Han Chiang College operates a website at www.hctvnews.net. to train students to cover and produce online news.
This website which adopts the concept of internet news website provides news in text and visual forms. Hence, HCC is the first and only private higher education institution in Malaysia which has this kind of concept.
Han Chiang TV & News Centre launched on 28 October 2006 by YAB Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon, the Chief Minister of Penang is well-equipped with up-to-date equipment such as TV studio, editing suites, digital video cameras, editorial rooms etc. For text news, besides collecting and reproducing news stories from other sources, the centre has its own experienced writers to provide news and commentaries. Experienced reporters, lecturers and students of the School of Communication form the backbone of HCTV & News Centre. The Centre’s crew is divided into the journalism team which is in charge of text news and the broadcasting team which is in charge of visual content. In addition, the Centre also has close links with government departments, community organisations and NGOs to enrich its website content.
The Centre which acts as a platform in providing hands-on experience for Han Chiang College Diploma in Communication and Broadcast Journalism students trains students to be broadcasters, broadcast journalists, reporters, editors, producers etc. Ultimately, these practical experiences prepare students for the corporate world and give them an edge in the job market.
Apart from being a training ground for students, Han Chiang TV & News Centre is also an independent media centre which provides viewers and readers alternative views and discussions on current issues. Through the continued support of viewers, it is hoped that www.hctvnews.net will be a well-known and successful independent media centre in the near future.
Besides web news, the Centre publishes the HCTV news magazine.
