HJU Gallery

The HJU Gallery was set up to showcase the creative works of our students in the fields of multimedia design and mass communication. Among the works exhibited in the gallery are fine art drawings, painting and compositions, photography, TV commercial storyboards, promotional design for campaigns, corporate identity and branding items, product packaging design, 3D modelling and multimedia interface design. In addition, the gallery also exhibits prize-winning works and student entries at national and regional creative design competitions.

Visitors are welcome to visit the gallery from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 8.00 am to 12.00 pm on Saturdays.

HCTV Studio

The HCTV studio is a fully-equipped professional standard television recording studio with an excellent adjustable lighting control system. The studio is 100% sound-proof and has a full-feature news desk for news casts and panel discussions. It also features an interview and talk show area apart from a blue screen for special effects video shooting. The studio also has a wardrobe and changing area, and an adjoining control room.

Photography Studio

This professional photography studio was set up to allow students to have hands-on experience of taking professional quality photographs for their assignments and projects without having to leave the campus. The photography studio has a complete set of adjustable studio lighting equipped with softboxes and booms to create a wide range of photography effects required. It has a motorised background set which allows students to select from a variety of backgrounds for their photo shoot. A blue screen is also available in this studio to allow students to do special effects video shoots and stop-motion animation.

Photography Dark Room

A fully functional photography dark room with individual and light-proof print developing cubicles are available for students to do their enlargement and prints. Each developing cubicle is equipped with a photographic enlarger and timer. A common developing sink and drying area is available for the developing and fixing of prints.

Multimedia Design Studios

Two multimedia design studios are available for teaching and practice purposes. These studios are for students to do their fine art work and are equipped with lightboxes and easel sets.

library

HCC Library

The HCC library is an important resource for teaching and learning and can be divided into the English and Chinese Collections. The library has an extensive collection of books, periodicals (journals and magazines), audio-visual materials, company annual reports and subject-based newspaper clippings for staff and students to utilise. Among the services available in the library are book reference and loans, audio-visual room, study carrels and self-service photocopying machines. Several computer terminals are available for students to conduct Internet searches, wordprocessing and scanning.

Discussion Room

A discussion room is available for students to have their discussions and meetings. This room is equipped with flipcharts and whiteboards to facilitate effective meetings and discussions.

Chinese Heritage Centre

The Chinese Heritage Centre was established with the key aim of advancing the understanding of and research on the history and culture of Chinese community. It has an exhibition hall with displays on the Chinese in Penang on themes such as education, politics and society. A resource room with a wide collection of reference materials on the Centre's areas of foci is available to staff, students and the general public.

Seminar Room

A seminar room with a capacity for 40 persons is available for seminars, presentations and meetings. This room allows students to have a comfortable and professional space for their academic and co-curricular activities.

Audio Studio

This sound-proof audio studio is used by the broadcasting students to record their radio programmes and to broadcast their live TF25 campus radio shows on Tuesdays and Fridays. Apart from these, this audio studio is used for voice-over recording and sound/audio-mixing.

Editing Suites

Five video editing suites are available for video post-production work. Each suite is equipped with multiple monitor viewing, video capture equipment and professional editing software.

Editorial Rooms

Two editorial rooms are available for the journalism students to produce their student newsletters, i.e. Han Chiang TV news. Each editorial room is equipped with desktop publishing terminals, letter-quality printers, scanners and editorial team meeting areas.

Tea Room

The tea room is an ideal place for students to relax after a long day at college. Tea-making facilities are available for use. The tea room's relaxing ambience makes it a popular hangout among students to read and chat with friends.

Computer Labs

The college is well-equipped with five computer labs that are used for teaching and practical purposes. Each computer lab is equipped with the necessary software that is required by the courses being taught. All labs are equipped with LCD projection systems to ensure effective delivery of instruction.

Multimedia Lab

This Macintosh computer laboratory is used by the multimedia communication design students for their print-based graphic design work. Apart from the Macs, this lab is equipped with a lightbox and an LCD projection system.

creative_studio

Creative Studio

Established in June 2004, the Creative Studio functions as a public relations and advertising agency, providing services such as event management, account servicing, design and development of print collateral (cards, brochures, fliers, folders etc) for internal and external publics.

The Creative Studio is manned by a team of lively and knowledgeable public relations and advertising students with a love to create and innovate. This is reflected in the Studio's tagline "Purely Innovative ‘N' Knowledgeable" or PINK in short.

The studio affords students an opportunity to hone their public relations and advertising skills and showcase their creativity, thus enhancing their employability.

Indoor Stadium

The Han Chiang indoor stadium is a world-class sporting facility that has played host to numerous international and national sports championships. The newly renovated and airconditioned indoor stadium can accommodate approximately 1000 spectators and has a shock-absorbent flooring to cater to the needs for high-performance basketball and volleyball competitions. In recent years, the indoor stadium has been the official venue for the national-level SUKMA and Agong's Basketball Cup. This facility is used by students for social basketball and volleyball. It is also the venue for HCC's final examinations.

In addition to the indoor stadium, students have the opportunity to use the four outdoor basketball courts for training and social games. Lighting is available for after-daylight use.

A football field is located within campus grounds for football matches.

gymnasium

Gymnasium

Students are welcome to use the gymnasium for basic exercise and toning purposes. Apart from gymnasium equipment, board games and dart boards are available for student use.

Lim Lean Teng Hall

The acoustic-treated and fully air-conditioned Lim Lean Teng Hall is the main venue for large-scale college events such as the College Graduation, Golden Achievement Awards Presentation, College Prom Night and examinations. The Hall can accommodate up to 1500 persons in auditorium-style seating and 1000 persons in banquet-style seating. Apart from stage events, the Lim Lean Teng Hall can be used for badminton matches.

Accommodation (Hostel)

International and out-station students have a wide range of choices for accommodation - from Han Chiang College's hostel to private rented homes. Han Chiang College provides a comfortable hostel which is located within the campus. The hostel has wardens to look after the needs of the hostelites.
